RINTIK : Cutscenes
As a game artist in the group, I managed the 3d props modelling and textures, as well as storyboards and animation for cutscene. RINTIK is a narrative-rich game yet I managed to create only opening scene and ending scene. For the first draft, the opening scene was created as first person perspective.
The opening shows that Abi (main character) is watching TV and his grandma entered the scene asking him if he wanted to go to supermarket together with her. Abi refused and decided to just stay at home.

But as me and my teammates discuss over and over again, to give a story more emotions, we agree to do third person perspective so that ones life's story is told in the cutscenes. I changed the storyboard again but still stick with the same concepts and ideas. The opening cutscene will start with a quick flashback of young baby Abi playing with his toybox alongside with his mother. Then come the black screen to let audience listen to the thunderstorm and tiny voice of a woman screaming Abi's name. Next, in the cutscene we found Abi is watching TV and her grandma invited him to go to the supermarket and he refused.
From this storyboard, I turned them into animatic videos as a first draft for unity file. The same goes as ending scene. The idea for the ending is, after the puzzle is solved, Abi will wake up from his dream and hugged his grandma and ended with tears from his eyes.
After the storyboard is done, I started to do the animation. The kind of animation style that I will be using is not the full-motion animation instead just a few panning of cameras and characters. More likely like a comic but not so comical. Since I was running out of time, I used Adobe After Effect instead because I can worked on it pretty fast with it. With a few inserted character's movement, I was sure that I will meet the deadline without rushing.
After the composition process finished, video rendered and finalize. I showed to my teammates and we discussed again about the timing. I still have a few things to add such as subtitles, since the voice over is in Malay Language, I was asked to add the English Subtitle. In addition, the timing for ending needed to be shorten a little bit and that was it.
